His debut album Immortal was produced in Texas and Vermont with Mark Hallman, whose credits include Carole King, Dan Fogelberg, Eliza Gilkyson, and Ani DiFranco. The record was featured on NPR's All Songs Considered and WXPN in Philadelphia, and Val's catalog has earned more than 1.3 million plays on the European music platform Jamendo. Houston's Public News once coined the phrase "Texas New-Age Folk-N-Roll" to describe the sound.
Davis started performing in Houston in the 1980s, drawn into the orbit of the Texas songwriter scene around Townes Van Zandt, Joe Ely, John Prine, Shake Russell, and Dana Cooper. Over a long career he's shared stages with Richie Havens, The Little River Band, and Loverboy. After raising seven children with his wife Dona, he returned to performing in 2024 — and is now writing and recording from his home on Lake Champlain.
